Don’t miss these exciting opportunities to travel in Nicaragua!

Solidarity and work delegations with Friends of the ATC

September 3 – 13, 2021

This brigade will make contributions in two significant areas of the Sandinista Revolution: culture and agriculture. In addition to studying the history of art, theater, music, agrarian reform, and farming, all grounded in the Sandinista Popular Revolution, delegates will get to work. There will be opportunities to contribute to ATC agroecological farms, and a mural dedicated to food sovereignty will be made in honor of international peasant movement La Vía Campesina’s International Day of Action on September 10th against the neoliberal policies of the World Trade Organization. Come make music, art, and grow food with us!

Cost: $1,000

Applications due: Wednesday, June 30, 2021

(Tentative – early November 2021)

There will be an international delegation to accompany Nicaragua’s elections on November 7th. Friends of ATC will join alongside members from CLOC-Vía Campesina.

More information forthcoming.

December 3 – 13, 2021

This delegation will follow the route of Ben Linder, a young North American from Portland, Oregon, who traveled to Nicaragua in the 1980s to support rural electrification projects in Jinotega and witness the first phase of the Sandinista Popular Revolution. While working on a small hydroelectric dam project near San Jose de Bocay, he was brutally murdered alongside two Nicaraguan men by the US-funded contras. Join us to commemorate international solidarity, learn what Nicaragua was like during Linder’s time, and enjoy with your own eyes how it looks today.

Cost: Sliding scale $1,000-$1,500

Applications due: Friday, October 1, 2021

January 4 – 14, 2022

Join us as we uncover internationalist history in Nicaragua, when in the 1980s, thousands of friends traveled from near and far to work the coffee harvests during years’ end in Matagalpa and Jinotega, Nicaragua’s northern coffee-growing departments, during the first phase of the Sandinista Popular Revolution. This brigade will work picking coffee on farms organized with the ATC. We will also study the work brigades of the 1980s and learn about current solidarity efforts in creating producer-consumer relationships both locally and internationally for ATC-grown coffee.

Cost: $1,000

Applications due: Monday, November 1, 2021
